“Bring an Apple to School Day” Ruined My Weekend So I Must Be Doing Something Right

My last post was about how I needed to write more.

Then I didn’t write anything for seven months.

But I’m back! Thanks to my longtime, high school friend, Latham Turner, I actually wrote something this month. Latham graciously allowed me to guest post on his Substack, “Get Real, Man.” His thoughtful, introspective newsletter often focuses on work, masculinity, and fatherhood and how they contribute to his pursuit of a true, meaning-filled identity in life. It’s right up my alley.

My post was inspired by a late-night rant about “invisible labor” that my wife, the Breadwinner in our family, didn’t understand. “Bring an Apple to School Day” ruined my weekend, and it helped me understand the value I bring to our household by doing the “women’s work” around here. And you don’t have to be a full-time, stay-at-home dad to do that work, by the way.

Check it out here, and let me know what you think:

I also hope you follow and subscribe to Latham’s Substack. It’s a good one.

One Dad’s Quest for the Greatest Minivan Money Can Buy, Part 2: A Real Man Drives a Minivan, I Swear

The waves crashed and roared in the morning sun as I tore around the curves at Pebble Beach on a warm October day.  Pebble’s iconic Lone Cypress emerged around a turn, so I screeched into a parking space to take a look and a few photos. I rose from my car, whipped off my sunglasses,

One Dad’s Quest For The Greatest Minivan Money Can Buy

I’m not coming home without a minivan. On the day after Christmas, I hitched a one-way ride to Sacramento to buy the perfect van: the 2021 Toyota Sienna Platinum AWD Hybrid. I was prepared mentally, emotionally, logistically, and financially to be a minivan owner for the next two decades. And the Grumpy-Toad-green, fully-loaded, Platinum Sienna

Poop In One Hand, Freedom In The Other: My Latest Thoughts On My Stay-At-Home Dad Career

My 3-year-old, R, returned from preschool one day and squeezed a giant turd right into his underwear. “Let’s-go-let’s-go-let’s-go!” I yelled, hoping the worst was yet to come. I whisked his 1-year-old brother, K, into my arms and climbed the steps into our house. R waddled behind me. In the bathroom, I surveyed the damage. Oh,
